Synagogue in Rashkov will be restored

Rabbi Yeshayahu Pinto – one of the most influential rabbis in the world, with a delegation visited the State Agency for Tourism on March 23, 2022.

The main objective of this business meeting was the restoration of the Rashkov synagogue.

Anna Mikolishina, director of the  State Agency for Tourism, presented to the guests information about the village of Rashkov, that once was the center of the Jewish community, about the synagogue and old Jewish cemeteries, and about the tourist route “One of the Branches of Israel” developed by the Agency, that includes objects of the Jewish historical and cultural heritage in Pridnestrovie.

Olga Slivka, head of the museum in the village of Rashkov and the local tour guide, emphasized the special significance of the synagogue for the entire spiritual Jewish world. It was here that Yaakov Yosef, the founder of the Rashkov rabbinic dynasty, a student of the founder of Hasidism Israel Baal Shem Tov, wrote the first book on Hasidism.

Rabbi Yeshayahu Pinto examined old pictures and technical schemes of the synagogue that was built in the early Baroque style. All four facades of the synagogue represent an impressive work of stone architecture.

«It is more expensive than any mineral. You can’t even imagine what you are keeping — it is history and holiness!” the rabbi concluded, noting that his goal is to renovate and reopen the synagogue for Jews around the world.

As a result of the business meeting, the Israeli side proposed to finance the reconstruction of the synagogue, which will become the center of Jewish pilgrimage. Work on the synagogue restoration  is planned to begin in the near future. The delegation headed by Rabbi Yeshayahu Pinto will visit Pridnestrovie in a month in order to discuss in detail all the upcoming work on synagogue renovation.
