Monument to the victims of the First World War
Organization address:
Panina st., Bendery

Описание:

The monument is dedicated to the valor of Russian soldiers and officers who died in Pridnestrovie during the First World War. It is put up in the garden named after R. Harbel at the walls of the fortress. The monument was unveiled for the 95th anniversary of the famous offensive of the Southwestern Front in 1916, later called Brusilov breakthrough.

The First World War did not pass by Bendery. The 55th Podolsk Infantry Regiment went to the battlefields from here. After the defeat of Romania, Bessarabia became a frontline territory, refugees
and wounded flocked to the city. Some of them were accommodated in the People’s Lecture Hall, adapted to the infirmary. Emperor Nicholas II visited it in 1916 during his trip to Bendery.
